Eligibility for Absentee Voting
A voter may cast an absentee ballot by mail or in person only if they meet one of the following criteria:
Eligibility for Absentee Voting by Mail
- Temporarily residing outside the city, meaning the absentee application and ballot must be mailed to an address outside of Gulfport
- Persons who are temporarily or permanently physically disabled
- Persons 65 years of age or older
- Parents, spouses, or dependents of a person who has a temporary or permanent disability and is hospitalized outside their county of residence or more than 50 miles away
Eligibility for Absentee Voting In Person
- Enlisted or commissioned members of any branch of the United States Armed Forces, their spouses, and dependents
- Members of the Merchant Marines or American Red Cross, their spouses, and dependents
- Disabled war veterans who are patients in a hospital, their spouses, and dependents
- Civilians attached to any branch of the Armed Forces, Merchant Marines, or Red Cross, serving outside the U.S., and their dependents
- Trained or certified emergency response providers deployed on Election Day during a state of emergency
- Persons temporarily residing outside the United States
- Students, teachers, or administrators whose employment or studies require them to be away from their county of voting residence, as well as their spouses and dependents
- Persons who will be outside their county of residence on Election Day
- Persons required to be at work during polling hours on Election Day
- Members of the Mississippi Congressional delegation, their spouses, and dependents

What to Expect When Voting In Person:
- Bring a valid photo ID (such as a driver’s license or government-issued identification).
- A City Clerk or Deputy City Clerk will confirm your voter registration and precinct.
- You will receive a ballot along with an absentee ballot envelope that serves as both your application and ballot envelope.
- Complete the ballot in secret and place it in the provided envelope.
- Sign across the envelope flap with the Deputy Clerk to ensure your ballot is counted.
- Your sealed ballot will be placed in a secure ballot box
